Tungaloy Enhances its Insert Grades for Heat-Resistant Super Alloys to Include New Geometries

August 2018 – Tungaloy is expanding its AH8000 series, grades dedicated to turning heat-resistant superalloys, to include new insert geometries.

This market-proven grade series has been expanded adding new positive geometries, amongst others, CPMT and VBMT to its lineup, with a corner radius of 0.2 mm or 0.008” commonly used in finishing applications. In addition, the negative insert line now offers the new -28 style chipbreaker along with the existing –HRF and –HRM styles. The -28 chipbreaker features a large inclination angle on the cutting edge designed to promote smooth chip flow and free cutting action. This helps to prevent surging temperatures at the cutting point which inhibits material from work-hardening, typical when machining HRSAs.

All new items in this expansion are offered in two grades: AH8015, the first-choice grade with well-balanced wear and fracture resistance; and AH8005, with superior wear resistance. This expansion to the AH8000 series offers outstanding productivity to customers in aerospace and heavy industries machining HRSAs.

  • At a Glance:
    • AH8000 series features impressive resistance to both wear and fracture thanks to the world’s first high Al-content, nano-multi-layered AlTiN coating technology
    • New negative inserts with the -28 style chipbreaker are designed with a large inclination angle on the cutting edge to ensure light cutting action; while the new CPMT and VBMT geometries, among others, are added to the positive lineup for broader capabilities when machining HRSA machining

  • Total of 62 items to be added in this expansion
